The Chordlighters are a 25+ member barbershop chorus composed of singers from Greenwood to Columbus and surrounding Indiana communities. Barbershop singing, like jazz and spiritual, is a truly American style of music, chromatic four-part harmony sung by unaccompanied voices. This performance will include a patriotic segment.
During the year 2017 the “Chordlighters” are celebrating their 30th anniversary. In January of 1987 the members of the Columbus “Chordsmen” and the Greenwood “Gaslighters” met to discuss the merger of the two choruses. The motion was made and a new chapter was formed. The “Chordlighters” were born.
Immediately thereafter in the spring of 1987, under the direction of Dave Galbraith, the new “Chordlighter Chorus” became the Cardinal District Chorus Champions. The chorus has, also, earned the Chapter of the Year award and the Most Improved Chorus award.
The Chordlighters are one of 700+ choruses and more than 1000 quartets that make up the Barbershop Harmony Society which has over 25,000 members throughout the US and Canada. There are, also, similar groups in Europe, Australia, and Africa and throughout the world.
Our current director is Bob Kendall, with Director Emeritus Lyle Pettigrew and assistant director Fred Dieckmeyer.
The Chordlighters have in their chapter several quartets that stem from the group. They are “Late Shift”, “Lads of Harmony” and “3 Handsome Gentlemen”
We meet every Tuesday evening at 7 PM at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Dr. in Franklin. For more information on the chorus, please, visit our website chordlighters.org. Any man who is interested in joining the chorus is welcome to come to our rehearsal any Tuesday night.
We will continue to entertain audiences for years to come with the cabaret, annual show and Christmas show as well as other performances throughout the area.
