SUMMARY:FREE 4th Friday Festival / Ft. Deadline
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the Art Walk that occurs every 4th Friday\, April through October\, the Playhouse will have free entertainment from 6:30 onward.  Various bands of different genres and different areas will be highlighted each month  The bar and concessions will be open and the Art gallery of Artist Associates of Brown County will be the highlight.  Enjoy visual art around town and then land at the playhouse for an evening of great live music. \nDEADLINE \nIf you spent any time in the early to mid-80’s going to hear music in\nnightclubs anywhere in the Midwest\, at some point you probably crossed\npaths with most of the musicians in the band Deadline. For it was then that\ngifted vocalist Rick Alexander\, then guitarist Jeff Lewis\, drummer Dave\nLemonds and keyboardist David Smith came together as founding\nmembers of the band Headline. A tight 8-piece rock band with a horn\nsection playing all over the Midwest as a top performing act.\nWhen Headline split\, the players went on to play for other regional acts\,\nand sidemen for national touring acts\, occasionally coming back together to\nrecord solo records for Rick Alexander and Jeff Lewis\, as well as doing\nstudio projects for a laundry list of local and national artists.\nAnother key member of the band\, saxophonist; arranger Jay Young\, is also\na Headline alum who brings with him a very well-known three-piece horn\nsection featuring Gary Graziano on trumpet\, and John Huntoon on\ntrombone.  They are regularly featured on the nationally syndicated Bob\nand Tom Show.\nThey have all come back together one more time to play songs they love\nthat have influenced who they are over the years\, coming out this time as\nDeadline (pun intended) and The Undertakers. This time they have also\nadded to their line-up Rich Morpurgo on lead guitar\, and Craig Lemonds on\nrhythm guitar/percussion/vocals\, and Tom Clark on saxophone to round out\nthe lineup.\nDeadline will bring their unique perspective on songs that you will know and\nlove that are not heard in a typical night club setting. Shows are being\nbooked now for the Fall and into 2023. We have the Fingerstyle Guitar Competition\, the Ukulele Fest\, the Bean Blossom Blues Fest\, the Bean Blossom Music Series\, the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival\, in addition to numerous entertainment venues\, all of which are commercially and civically supported. DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED FROM MAY 16TH TO JULY 25TH \nGarrison Keillor did “A Prairie Home Companion” for forty years\, wrote fiction and comedy\, invented a town called Lake Wobegon where all the children are above average\, even though he himself grew up evangelical in a small separatist flock where all the children expected the imminent end of the world. He’s busy in retirement\, having written a memoir and a book of limericks and is at work on a musical and a Lake Wobegon screenplay\, and he continues to do “The Writers Almanac” sent out daily to Internet subscribers. \nKeillor & Company is an evening of stand-up\, storytelling\, audience song\, and\npoetry starring Garrison Keillor and featuring pianist Dan Chouinard and vocalist\nPrudence Johnson.\nThere are sung sonnets\, limericks and musical jokes\, and the thread that runs\nthrough it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience\, old age brings\nthe contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind\nyou\, nothing left to prove\, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s\nwhat’s left. (“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an\nintellectual\, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t\npay to be made unhappy\, their kids will do it for free.) There is the News from\nLake Wobegon\, a town booming with new entrepreneurs\, makers of artisanal\nfirewood and gourmet meatloaf\, breeders of composting worms\, and dogs trained\nto do childcare. But some things endure\, such as the formation of the Living Flag\non Main Street\, citizens in tight formation wearing red\, white or blue caps\, and Mr.\nKeillor among them\, standing close to old neighbors\, Myrtle Krebsbach\n(“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno\, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint\nBunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an\nodd medley of patriotic songs\, pop standards\, hymns\, and ending with the national\nanthem.\nDan Chouinard is a St. Paul-based honky-tonk pianist\, concert soloist and\naccompanist\, street accordionist\, sing-along enabler\, Italian and French teacher\,\nand bicycling vagabond. He’s been writer and host of a number of live history with-music shows broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio and Twin Cities Public\nTelevision. He played on a dozen live broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion\nplus a half dozen APHC cruises\, and served as rehearsal pianist for Meryl Streep\,\nLily Tomlin\, and Lindsay Lohan on the 2005 movie. He’s featured on a number of\nrecordings with APHC regulars Peter Ostroushko (RIP)\, Prudence Johnson\, and\nMaria Jette.\nPrudence Johnson’s long and happy career as a singer\, writer\, and teacher has\nlanded her on the musical theater stage\, in two feature films (A River Runs\nThrough It\, A Prairie Home Companion)\, on a national radio show (several long\nstints on A Prairie Home Companion)\, and on concert stages across North America\nand occasionally Europe. She has released more than a dozen recordings\, including\nalbums dedicated to the music of Hoagy Carmichael and Greg Brown\, and a\ncollection of international lullabies. \nBUY TICKETS
